A new project to download and make. This project is based around the Double Crank Essential Mechanism. The original mechanism has had a few modifications to change the movement and a couple of duck added! Turn the handle to make the ducks waddle.

Double Ducks

The original Essential Mechanism is here for you to download and modify. Why not create your own variations on the theme? In this project the double crank is linked via push rods to the sliding pads on the top of the box. You can see a clearer view in this half assembled upside down project here.

Upside Down Double Crank Mech

For the Double Duck project I made few changes. I reduced the throw of the crank by making the arms shorter.

Double Crank Original
Double Crank Compact Version

With the new compact crank the pads don’t move as far back and forth so that the duck legs don’t pull the duck body apart.

With the box assembled, the duck legs and feet are glued to the sliding pads. In the adapted version the pads are made quite a lot longer so that two ducks can be fitted onto them without bumping into each other

Feet and Legs Ready For Action

The ducks have a double slot under the body ready for the legs to slide into place, one leg on each side.

The ducks then just slip onto the top of the legs. The loose fit lets the body twist as the legs move back and forth giving the characters a pleasing waddle!
