Long Tailed Tit. A mix of paper engineering and STEAMjunk engineering. This delightful little bird comes to life as you crank the bead and wire mechanism
This new downloadable project is from www.robives.com. Paid subscribers to this newsletter can download it from the bottom of this page!
The project is mainly paper engineering but does have some bead and wire parts for the central mechanism. It comes as a downloadable pdf file ready for you to print out and make, you just need to add some paper clips for the wire parts and some 6mm glass beads as spacers.
The body is clipped out from this long tailed tit I photographed at a nearby nature reserve, they are such a cute little bird I thought it would make for a good character for a simple automata project.
The box itself is a very simple construction idea from Godwin at Dazzling Discoveries, thanks Godwyn! It was a pleasure to meet you!
I had originally made a plain box for the bird to stand on but decided to try and make it look like a fence post instead. I took photos of a couple of logs from the stove on my boat and trimmed them down to size.
.I’m pleased with how they have turned out and will definitely be using that technique again in the future
