An intriguing optical illusion for you to download and make. There are no moving parts in the model but as you move the model side to side the dice appear to float around above the baseboard. It is properly weird.

Magic Dice

The project comes as a downloadable pdf ready for you to print onto thin card using your own printer.

Parts and Step by Step Instructions

The secret of the project is the hollow dice. When you view the project from above you are actually looking onto a concave hollow surface but your brain sees what it thinks is a pair of solid dice and does the magic for you flipping the dice into what looks like a solid shape. It is only as you tilt the dice to one side and see their lower surface that they suddenly jump into a hollow shape.

The Finished Project

To see the illusion in action hold the base at arm’s length, close one eye and gently rock the board side to side, be amazed as the hollow dice suddenly appear to be solid! Magic!

The reveal!
