I keep coming back to these corrugated‑cardboard gear projects. There’s something very satisfying about cutting out a pair of gears, pinning them together with a couple of split pins, and watching them mesh perfectly.

The Mech Hen uses a sixteen‑tooth gear driving a nine‑tooth gear, with the prototype built using my prepared sheet‑of‑gears. I’ve included that gear sheet as a download at the foot of the page for premium members.

The Mech Hen project is a more polished version and is ready to download at the foot of this page. Print out the paper parts, glue them to thin corrugated card (e‑flute around 1.5 mm works well), then cut them out. Follow the illustrated step‑by‑step instructions to assemble your very own Mech Hen.

The project comes as a multi‑page PDF with all the parts and step‑by‑step instructions ready for you to make your own. If you’re a premium subscriber, you can download the file at the foot of the page. Not a subscriber yet? You can pick up the project from my website for £5 or equivalent. I hope you enjoy this bit of cardboard whimsy!

Thanks for reading this short newsletter, I wish you a very crafty weekend ahead. If you’d like to support the newsletter and get every new project as it arrives, you’re always welcome to subscribe.
