Here’s a quick project from a couple of years back. Squeeze the peg to make the Dipper bird dip! The spring in the peg returns it to its upright position ready to dip again.

The dipper is a small brown and white bird with a short tail. They can often be found perched on rocks in shallow streams and rivers in the UK where they dip up and down in a characteristic way - hence the name! This simple project aims to capture the movement of the wild bird.
The two legs are connected to different jaws of the wooden clothes peg (clothespin for my US readers) They are wedged into place with the end of a cocktail stick to stop the bird rolling forward. The two mounting holes in the body are made close together to enhance the amount of dipping that the bird does. The front leg is connected to the lower jaw making the bird move down when the peg is opened. The project comes as a downloadable pdf with parts and step by step instructions ready for you to print out on your own printer,
